It's Pongal season, and time for some new movies.
Having never missed any of Vijay's films from the outset, I made my way to a premiere show of 'Jilla' here in SL.
A typical mass masala type movie once again. Nothing new to Vijay definitely.
The first half is full of comedy, and with Vijay as the lead actor, we definitely know that it's a treat to watch his comedy acts. That's definitely a plus to the movie.
Towards the middle, some really emotional scenes, that definitely tends to move the crowd to silence in the theater.
And an action packed, all star ending to seal the movie.
Upside?
Good comedy by Vijay himself, no doubt. Some good father-son and family scenes.
And good BG music too. The songs are sure a hit.
Action packed, with a few twists here and there. And since it's Vijay and Mohanlal we are talking about, the acting is definitely too good and very enjoyable.
Downside?
Soori hasn't been used enough for comedy. In Velayudham it was a better performance. And the heroine, Kajal's character too has been rushed. As the main female lead, I guess she deserved some more juice in the plot.
And the length of the movie. That's the biggest fail. It goes on for more than 3 hours. I feel they could have cut down a bit on the unnecessary parts.
So what's the verdict?
7 is my rating. Not as superb as Thuppaki was. But it's above Thalaiva for sure.
A sure Pongal treat for the die hard Vijay fans.
And a decent watch to the other neutrals, to enjoy with the family as well.

Polhena Beach, Matara
Sri Lanka, being an island has plenty of beaches to boast about. And spending some time on the beach is one of my favorite past times. So yes, there you go, you will find plenty of posts about the beaches around Sri Lanka on my blog.
The Polhena beach used to be less popular compared to the other beaches like Unawatuna and Hikkaduwa, which basically serve as the tourist magnets. But nowadays, you would find this beach crowded to the brim too, specially during the December season.
But nevertheless, that should not keep you away from visiting this blissful place. A weekday visit would be just fine, or you know, during the off season.
'Paradise on earth' is a tag line used by people all over the world in order to attract more tourists to visit that place. But we find that only a few of those places tend to live up to their name.
Polhena is undoubtedly one such place.
I have been around to most beaches in Sri Lanka, and Polhena among them is definitely a 5/5.
I mean it's not like every other day that you would find a beach with a natural swimming pool, is it?
That's right. This beach has its very own natural swimming pool!
Since the beach tends to get some cover from rocks jutting out land, the waves are minimal. And when I say minimal, I mean it. There's simply no waves at all, and that is what leads to the formation of this natural pool.
Upside?
The color of the water is a bluish green, and the sands are whitish yellow.
A perfect spot to have those tans on.
The locals there, rent out tires too, in case you have a small kid who loves being adrift on the water.
And there's a shower room, with accompanying restrooms for the convenience of the visitors.
And in case you happen to have a football with you, there's plenty of space to have a match or two ;)
Downside?
The only downside to this beach would be the broken pieces of coral that you would find to be painful if stepped on. The pieces align one side of the beach, and if you take enough care to avoid those, then it shouldn't be a problem
So what's the verdict?
A must visit. Avoid the crowds, and avoid the broken pieces of coral.
It would surely make for an unforgettable experience.

Jungle Beach- Unawatuna
Welcome to Sri Lanka- the land of the beaches.
Being an island, the country is famous for its splendid beaches.
Unawatuna is in the southern coast of Sri Lanka, and is named as one of the world's most beautiful beaches. It is quite famous among tourists from all over the world.
Today's post is about the jungle beach, which is found just before you reach the Unawatuna main beach.
Jungle beach is a calm and tranquil beach off the main Colombo- Galle highway.
Before reaching the main Unawatuna beach, there is a hilly road leading all the way along the Rumassala peak.
And to reach the beach you are supposed to trek along a jungle. It is fun and ideal for the adventurous youth.
